Instructions for parents:
This is an opportunity for kids to explore learning how to learn.
Concepts such as Observation, Ponder, Imagine, and Hypothesize (Think) are some tools that help to understand the wonderful world around us.
It is best to prepare the materials beforehand and set up the learning environment. The area should be free from distractions and safety is of utmost importance.
For the balloon chemistry experiment, all you need are:
- Paper cut outs
- Balloon
- Wool
Steps:
- Rub the inflated balloon on wool several times.
- You can also try rubbing the inflated balloon on your hair.
- Bring the balloon close to the paper cut outs.
- If enough static charge has been built on the ballon's surface, the paper cutouts should be attracted to the balloon's surface.

Why did this happen?
When rubbing the inflated balloon on wool or on your hair several times, electrons from the surface are carried onto the balloon, making it negatively charged. This makes positive charges of the paper cut outs jump onto the negatively charged balloon.
